The Western Gazette is the one of the oldest and most prominent student-run newspapers in Canada, publishing both online and print.

Volunteering in the video department gave me insights into working in a more structured and traditional media environment and gave me access to more professional equipment and softwares.
My Role
During my semester volunteering at the Western Gazette I worked on various projects and learned a lot about video production as I took on multiple roles depending on the project.
I was often in charge of filming which helped my learn about composition, framing, and operating professional camera's like Sony's black magic. I also learned a lot about lighting and storytelling through these projects.

Once the filming was done I helped out with editing where I learned to use Premiere Pro and got better at colour grading and experimented with new transitions and effects.

Most importantly, these projects helped me better understand what it is like working in a creative team as I typically took on many creative projects alone up until this point.
Outcome
This is one of the projects where I took on many different roles from filming all the way to editing, and am very happy with how it turned out.
For this project, I came up with the idea for the video and shot it with the help of many editors and volunteers at the Gazette. I was involved heavily in pre and post production of the video and am very proud of the outcome.
